INFORMATION

Psicothema was founded in Asturias (northern Spain) in 1989, and is published jointly by the Psychology Faculty of the University of Oviedo and the Psychological Association of the Principality of Asturias (Colegio Oficial de Psicólogos del Principado de Asturias).
We currently publish four issues per year, which accounts for some 100 articles annually. We admit work from both the basic and applied research fields, and from all areas of Psychology, all manuscripts being anonymously reviewed prior to publication.

Competencias para la flexibilidad:la gestión emocional de las organizaciones

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo el análisis del traslado de la flexibilidad de las organizaciones contemporáneas a los trabajadores. A través del enfoque de gestión por competencias, las organizaciones tratan de desarrollar en los trabajadores aquellos comportamientos causalmente relacionados con un desempeño laboral eficiente. Para valorar el alcance de este planteamiento, hemos empleado una perspectiva crítica-racional que nos permitiese discutir las exigencias de productividad características de las sociedades industriales avanzadas. El artículo concluye exponiendo cómo el vínculo existente entre la gestión de la flexibilidad y las competencias emocionales de los trabajadores acaba afectando a sus propias biografías que, al igual que las organizaciones, deben ser versátiles y adaptables a cambios.

Flexibility competencies: Emotional organization management. The aim of this article is to analyse the transferral of flexibility from contemporary organizations to workers. Through the approach of management by competencies, organizations try to develop in their workers behaviours that are related to efficient job performance. In order to appraise the importance of this approach, we used a critical-rational perspective to discuss the productivity demands that are characteristic of advanced industrial societies. The article shows how the link between workers’ flexibility management and their emotional competencies affects their lives, which, like the organizations, should be versatile and adaptable to change.
